Yesterday was a disgusting 2-3 day. Terrible performances by the Blue Jays offense, Tigers, and Yankees led to a night of disappointment. Nothing bothers me more than giving picks that are just flat-out dumb reds. It is one thing to just miss on a pick and get blown away, but having some shmuck from the Orioles basically becomes unhittable AND the Yankees puke on themselves was devastating. For a second, I wanted to (responsibly) put every cent I can on some -1000 favorite just to get those losses back. But that’s not how it works and it’s time to just go undefeated like the damn winners that we are.
Reds and Cardinals have a doubleheader and this pick is just for game 1. Wade Miley (Reds Pitcher) is silently having a career year. The man is 11-4 with a sub 3 ERA and thrives off of inducing soft contact. Now, normally I would never trust a Reds Pitcher (no offense to all the Reds fans but they don’t have a lot of depth in the bullpen). On the other side, Miles Mikolas (Cardinals Pitcher) has performed well this year when he isn’t injured. Again, I normally wouldn’t count on the Cardinals Bullpen, but his performance has made me think otherwise. With both pitchers performing well and this being a 7-inning game, my first pick will be under 7.5 at -110.
The Pick- Under 7.5 -110
I don’t want to pat myself on the back too much here but a little story back three years ago. I went to an Astros spring training game and saw a dude named Abraham Toro BALL out. From that moment on, I confidentially have stated he was going to be a star. The only problem is he plays for the Astros and they have superstars at every position in the infield. That is until Bregman got hurt and Toro took advantage. A trade to the Mainers has now made Toro an everyday player. Long story short, if any baseball teams are hiring for talent scouts, I am available Sunday-Monday.
The Pick Mariners ML +120
This is the “not so pretty pick of the day.” It is one that I feel shame that I’m playing, but when there is money to be made who am I to turn my head away? Rockies are one of the worst road teams in the league and have TWO (2) road series victories on the year. After splitting the first two games against Texas and the rubber match on the line, I do not expect them to perform at all. BUT they do have one of their best pitchers on the mound against a putrid Texas Rangers Lineup. I wouldn’t blame anyone for not watching this game as it will probably be just me and MAYBE a few of the players’ families watching.
The Pick Rangers vs Rockies under 8.5 -115
After a few day game-winners, it will be nice to sit back with your nightcap on and watch Max Scherzer put on a performance. The man is an absolute animal and hasn’t lost yet as a member of the Dodgers. Going up against a former divisional rival in the Atlanta Braves, most likely without Ozzy Albies, I expect Scherzer to absolutely dominate.
The Picks Dodgers -1.5 +110 AND Scherzer over 8.5 K’s +100
Current Record: 2-3-0
Total Units Won/Lost: -0.85 units.
