How To Place A Straight Bet on FanDuel

Last Updated:

Whether you’re a first-time sports bettor or have been placing bets at the sportsbook for years, betting online can have a learning curve.  That’s why we’ve created a tutorial video showing you how to place a straight bet on the FanDuel Sportsbook App.

What Is A Straight Bet?

In sports betting, a straight bet is any wager on a single game. The wager can be a moneyline bet, point spread, or over/under (totals straight bet).

Straight bets are the most common type of wager in the sports betting industry. Keep in mind that a straight bet is one single wager placed on a particular event. A prop bet, parlay bet, futures bet, same-game parlay, or any kind of bet outside of the standard game line bets isn’t considered a straight bet.

You’ll find myriad ways to place straight bets at FanDuel Sportsbook. Look for odds boosts offered by FanDuel on certain bets to increase your chances of winning even more.

Let’s take a quick look at the three different types of straight bets:

Moneyline Straight Bet

A moneyline bet is a wager on the winner of a game or match outright. Simply bet on which team or athlete you think will win the game, with no point spread involved.

If your chosen team or athlete wins the game outright, you win the moneyline bet at the odds offered by the sportsbook.

Point Spread Straight Bet

A point spread bet assigns a number that’s added to one team’s score (the underdog) or subtracted from the other team’s score (the favorite or favored team). You have to pick which team will win the game with that point spread added. The point spread is one of the most popular sports bets in the industry.

For example, if you bet on the Kansas City Chiefs (-7) against the Pittsburgh Steelers, you would need the Chiefs to win by more than seven points to win the bet.

Totals Straight Bet

Totals bets (aka over/under bets) wager on whether the combined score of a game will end up over or under a number given by the sportsbook.

Now that we’ve looked at the different kinds of bets, let’s go over how to make a straight bet on your FanDuel Sportsbook account.

Step 1: Find an event

Once you have the FanDuel Sportsbook App opened and are logged in, the first step is finding the event you want to place a bet on. You can search for the event by scrolling the home screen or using the All Sports Menu.

In this video, I am betting the Memphis Grizzlies as an eight-point underdog. When I click on the (-8) line on the app, the wager is sent to my bets tab.

Keep in mind that a straight bet is a single bet on the moneyline, point spread, or totals odds in a game line. Prop bets, futures bets, and parlays don’t qualify as straight bets.

Step 2: Enter your wager

After selecting your bet, the next step is to enter your wager amount. To do so, select the wager section at the bottom of the screen. There you will enter the amount you want to bet.

In this video, I’ve bet $1 on the Grizzlies, and you can see that the bet will pay $0.91 in profit I I win. That payout comes at the (-110) odds offered on the bet by FanDuel.

FanDuel Straight Bet FAQ

What is the difference between a straight bet and a parlay in sports betting?

A straight bet is a single-game bet on the moneyline, point spread, or over/under of a particular event. A parlay is two or more wagers combined into a single bet.

For a parlay to win, all the wagers on the ticket must win. A straight bet only involves one bet and one outcome; if you win the bet, you get paid at the odds given by the sportsbook.

Can you make straight bets on FanDuel?

Yes. Like other top sportsbooks, straight bets (moneyline, totals, and point spreads) are front and center at FanDuel Sportsbook. Open a sports betting account with FanDuel in a legal state, make a deposit, and you’ll see many straight betting options across many different sports.

What is the payout on a straight bet?

Payouts on straight bets are displayed in American odds format, usually right next to the game line. For example, you often see payouts listed as (-110) or (+110).

Odds of (-110) mean you need to bet $110 to win $100 in profit, while odds of (+110) mean you win $110 in profit for every $100 bet.

Is a point spread bet a straight bet?

Yes. Any single point spread wager counts as a straight bet. Moneyline bets and over/under bets also fall under the straight bet category.

Is a moneyline bet a straight bet?
