Prop betting can be a fun way to bet on specific outcomes or on certain players within a game. That’s why we’ve created this step-by-step tutorial to help make prop betting on the FanDuel Sportsbook app as easy as it is fun.
Read on for instructions on how to make a prop bet (aka proposition bet) at FanDuel Sportsbook, along with prop betting tips and more:
What Is Prop Betting?
A prop bet can be any wager that isn’t directly tied to the final score of a sporting event.
At FanDuel Sportsbook, you’ll mainly find three different props: player prop bets and team prop bets. Let’s take a look at the difference between these two sports betting types:
Player Prop Bets
Player props are wagers on whether a particular player will achieve a certain statistical goal. For instance, let’s say you wanted to place a player prop on an NFL game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles.
The player prop betting options available on such a game could include Patrick Mahomes over or under 300 passing yards, or Jalen Hurts over or under 1.5 passing touchdowns.
An NBA prop bet example could include whether Lebron James will score over or under 26.5 points in a given game.
Team Prop Bets
Team props involve betting on a team statistic from a given game. For example, in the Chiefs-Eagles example game from above, you could bet on which team will score the first touchdown, or whether the Eagles will get over or under three sacks.

Step 1: Find an event
Once you have the FanDuel Sportsbook App opened and are logged in, the first step is finding the event you want to place a prop bet on. You can search for the event by scrolling the home screen or using the All Sports Menu.
When you find your event, select the “more wagers” button to find all the wagering options. There you will see numerous categories of prop bets. In this video, I am betting that Marcus Smart will have over 5.5 assists in the Celtics vs Bucks game.
This bet falls into the NBA player prop bets category.

Step 2: Enter your wager
After selecting your bet, the next step is to enter the amount you want to wager. You can do so by entering the amount in the bet slip at the bottom of the page.

Step 3: Place your bet
The third and final step to placing a Prop Bet is pressing the “place bet” button at the bottom of the screen.
Congratulations, you’ve successfully placed a Prop bet on the FanDuel Sportsbook App!

You can find prop bets on the NFL by clicking on a game line, then clicking the “More Wagers” tab at the bottom right of the game line menu. That will open up an expanded menu of available prop bets on the game.
Are prop bets profitable?
Most of the money that’s wagered on an NFL game, for example, is wagered on traditional game line bets that surround picking the winning team (point spread, moneyline, and totals).
As such, the top sportsbooks in the sports betting industry adjust lines on these bets with incredible accuracy, making it very difficult for all but the sharpest bettors to profit in the long run.
With so many prop bets available on a big sports day, however, you can find profitable opportunities much more often than you will by betting traditional game lines.
How do prop bets payout work?
For example, if you bet the over on the Philadelphia Eagles getting over 3.0 sacks in a game at (+145) American odds, you’ll win $145 in profit for every $100 bet.
If the odds were (-145), that means you win $100 for every $145 bet.
Be sure to check your Betslip anytime you click on a bet to see the potential payout odds on the bet. You can always input the amount you wish to wager into the Betslip to see the potential payout, but note than as soon as you click “Place Bets” the wager is official and the bet stands.
